A short biography over my career as both a police officer and an educator
I started my life on the west coast and after graduating college, became a long-term substitute teacher for an inner city school district. I moved to Texas and entered a teacher preparation college before becoming a science teacher at a suburban high school. I taught Chemistry and Integrated Physics-Chemistry before then branching out to Pre-AP Chemistry. I had the opportunity to create a Forensic Science class from scratch and as a result, decided to join the local Citizens Police Academy. I became hooked and decided to go through the local police academy at night while still teaching full-time.
I graduated in 2017 and immediately went to work part-time at a local small-town police department. From there, our school district opened a CTE center and I taught the Criminal Justice program for them. In 2020, another department asked me to work there as they were critcally short staffed so I went full-time during the summer and was the only officer in the area to be dual-commissioned as well as the only female officer in one of my counties. Luckily for me, I got to experience a lot of unique cases as a result of working for a small department- where you are the crime scene tech, detective and investigator for all of your cases. I was able to take all of my experiences and make a curriculum of all of my rookie moments, especially taking the time to better explain concepts/laws to my students that I had trouble with intially.
In 2023, I accepted a position in a neighboring district as a hybrid criminal justice instructor and school resource officer. I still am dual commissioned and work patrol on select days off to keep my foot in the door. In 2024, I received my Master Peace Officer License and am working on going through the Texas School Safety's School-Based Law Enforcement program.
